American Seeks Political Asylum Through Craigslist to Escape Obamamania

So we know Obama can get tiring sometimes – all the relentless media coverage, the expectation, the audacity of hope… but that’s no reason to try and flee your own country (with child) under a dodgy visa arrangement brokered over the internet, right?

Wrong, according to Tara, a 31 year old from North Carolina, who placed this post on the ‘London’ page for listings site Craigslist (under the heading ‘Need Political Asylum’):

“I need to leave the United States, in exchange for marriage I can offer a US pass port I just want to leave to United States which is no longer the country I grew up in. I can not live for four years under Obama. The last 8 has been bad enough!
I give you American citizenship in exchange to live in England for four years. I have a daughter so we are a package deal. I am smart, funny, fun, and can actually carry a conversation. I love sports and beer. I am respectful and have a GREAT Southern accent ”

Tears were welling in our eyes at this point, so we thought we’d invite her over, you know, and one of our writers answered her post suggesting a civil partnership:

Hi,
I saw your ad on Craigslist. I am sorry that you are unhappy living in the US under an Obama presidency, especially since you are so pretty.
I would be happy to offer you a home to share in England. I also love sports and beer and I have a great Southern accent too, although that’s South London.
Now, I realise that this may not be exactly what you had in mind at first, because I am a woman, but that is not a problem in this country as, unlike in the backwards United States (I can see why you need to leave) civil partnerships (gay marriage) are legal eveywhere, so it’s perfect.

Hi Hannah,
Thank you for your compliment but I am staying in the US.  Although I would LOVE to visit the UK and Ireland soon.  I hope to be able to visit by next summer.  I have always heard its a beautiful place and it has so much history.  I am a big history geek.  I am not unhappy in the US its jsut not the same as it was when i was growing up.  I think Obama will be a good president its his lack of expirance that bothers me.  Bush had a hard presidentacy no matter what people say.  Although i will say the last 4 years or so this country has gone to hell.  And my issue with Obama is we are in 2 wars and he never served.  A lot of military people I know have a BIG issue with that.
