Bill Shannon: Man Breakdances On Crutches
As promised we’re going to be posting some of the best confessional films from our limited edition ‘Art of Confession’ DVD right here. The first of these is ‘Crutch’, a short film by BAD IDEA contributor Sachi Cunningham and Chandler Evans, which follows the dance exploits of ‘Crutchmaster’ Bill Shannon. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, Shannon is an extraordinary performer who uses bilateral hip deformity to his advantage by breakdancing and skateboarding on crutches.
The man really has to be seen to be believed; ‘Crutch’ was a minor YouTube phenomenon, and was subsequently broadcast on ABC’s Good Morning America (which is really about as mainstream as it gets in America, short of being a dynastic heir/second rate celebrity with a sex tape up on the Internet). The film itself is a taster for a feature length documentary project that Sachi and Chandler have been working on for several years now, which will chart Shannon’s progress from obscure street artist to internationally acclaimed choreographer. The feature length film is still a little way off, but in the meantime why not cast your eyeballs on the short that took the Crutchmaster to the world…
Those of you who like your indie hip hop may have seen Shannon starring in RJD2’s ‘Work It Out’ (XL) music video, where yet again he shows off some rather nifty skills. If you haven’t, you can check it out below…
